Delhi 2018 - Jantar Mantar

Not far from Connaught Centre is a fascinating and unusual architectural relic called Jantar Mantar. It is not a building, but a complex of structures built to observe the sun, moon and planets. Their primary purpose was as astronomical instruments to observe and predict the movements of celestial bodies. They were built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur around 1724. The knowledge and skills they had nearly 300 years ago to build such structures really boggle the mind.

These unusual-looking sculptures inside the sundial were designed to trace the path of the sun.

This structure that looks like the Colosseum is a sundial to tell the time of day.
