Delhi 2018 - Chandni chowk

Chandni Chowk (Moonlight Square) is the old town of Delhi - and one of its main commercial hubs. This area dates back to the period when Emperor Shah Jahan established the capital city Shahjahahabad on the banks of the Yamuna River.

Whatever you have ever read about Chandni Chowk does not prepare you for the actual sights, sounds and smells when you are actually there. Our Indian tour guide described it as "managed chaos" - things seem to be out of control everywhere but at the same time, everything is where it should be - if that makes any sense. Cows, bikes, cars, tuk-tuks and pedestrians all share the same roads.

Chandni Chowk is loosely organized into different sections for the clustering of different trades. However, it is hard to see where one section begins and another ends. Best is just go with the flow.

We bumped into this group of students on one of the busy streets. They were quite happy to preen for the camera. They easily stole our hearts.
