Luang Prabang 2017 - Wat Xieng Thong
Luang Prabang is renowned for its many Buddhist temples - and one of the best known is Wat Xieng Thong which is located near the tip of the Peninsula. The roof form with its sweeping curves that reach low to the ground is quite distinctive and beautiful. The gold-gilded decorative at the front elevation of the temple is elaborate and impressive.
At the back wall is a majestic "Tree of Life" mosaic artwork that is the highlight of the temple.
Within the complex, there are several other smaller buildings that house the Royal Carriage and Buddha images of the period. One particularly striking building was a small hall with red-coloured walls. The in-laid design in colourful mosaic depicting daily life in the day was really beautiful.
