Bangkok 2011 - Lunch at Chote Chitr Restaurant

Based on the recommendation of a few Bangkok food bloggers and a glowing review in the New York Times, I decided to check out Chote Chitr Restaurant in the Saochingcha area of Bangkok. It is a very small restaurant with only enough seating for about 20 people. When we arrived it was packed and we had to wait for the tables to clear up.

The lady who runs the place is a powerful looking matriach who looked a bit stern at first, but once you you start talking to her she is very friendly. It is best to get her recommendation on the food.

We made the order and waited for the food to arrive. It took a long time - more then 45 min for the first dish to arrive. But the taste of the food was well worth the wait.. These were simply some of the best Thai food I have ever tasted.

The tiny kitchen where everything is cooked - by this lady in blue.

Banana Flower Salad. Wonderful balance of flavours - sweet, sour, salty, aromatic.

Prawns in Yellow Curry - another winning dish.

Mee Krob.

Pad Thai - topped with a huge prawn.

Deepfried chicken breast topped with garlic, with green papaya salad on the side. The chicken was perfectly cooked and fork tender.

Chicken with yellow curry. Not very appetizing to look at, but was delicious !

If you are in Bangkok now, you owe it to yourself to seek out Chote Chitr. You are guaranteed to experience one of your culinary highlights in the city.
