Bangkok 2017 - Siam Discovery Mall

One of the earlier premium shopping malls in Bangkok - Siam Discovery Mall - has been given a lavish makeover recently. The interior design by Japanese firm Studio Nendo is truly an outstanding achievement. The interior feels more like an art gallery than a mall - with many of the displays looking like art installations.  The designers took the theme of visual illusions to new heights. 

Each section of the store uses a different optical illusion as the main theme. The result is quite mesmerizing. 

The old Siam Discovery was always a bit of a mixed bag. While there were some very cool shops inside - the overall layout was quite uninspiring. With the new makeover, the designers have introduced a deep atrium space which serves as the main focus - and also improved the overall visibility throughout the interior. This was indeed a stunning transformation for a shopping mall.
