Kuala Lumpur 2011 - Breakfast at Makan Kitchen - Doubletree Hilton

The all-day-dining cafe at Doubletree Hilton is called Makan Kitchen and is located at Level 11 of the hotel. Occupying an entire floor, it is a huge cafe with several themed sections. The focus is on Malaysian Cuisine - Malay, Chinese, Indian, Nonya, Kristang (Portuguese) and even Iban Cuisine from Sarawak.

The design of the cafe follows the same vein as countless hotel cafes in Malaysia and Singapore, with open kitchens and different cooking stations. Instead of mixing up the themes as in rojak, here the traditional elements are used in different sections of the cafe. The result is quite successful. It looks stunning in some corners.

Some of the food displays. The cheese section was particularly good.

The quality of the food is quite good bit I would not say outstanding. The big surprise for me was the curry section - it was the first time I tasted curry chicken in a hotel that is beautifully cooked - with aromatic herbs and spices and the chicken pieces still juicy and tender. I don't know whether this is a fluke or the usual standard, but a must try.
