Singapore 2011 - Lunch at Food Republic 313 Sommerset

We arrived in Singapore around noon time. By the time we got to the hotel, it was already around 2.00 p.m. Everyone was crying out for some food, especially the kids. Near the hotel was Sommerset 313, one of the latest additions on Orchard Road and it also boasts the largest Food Republic Food Court in Singapore. We decided to head there for lunch.

The Food Court occupies the entire 5th floor of the shopping centre. The concept for Food Republic is to bring some of the best hawkers and put them in one nicely designed, clean and convenient location. The prices here are much higher then hawker centres, but you are paying for the ambiance !

The selection here is endless, and it's not easy to make up your mind. We finally settled on some Mince Pork Noodles, Char Siew Rice, and Nonya Mixed Rice. The Mince Pork Noodle was quite good - the strands of noodles coated with tasty lard and soy sauce.

The Char Siew was just as it should be - sweet, sticky and tender.

The Nonya Mixed Rice was a bit hit and miss. Some items were good, some just so so.

The Nonya spicy squid was not bad.

This place is so huge - the girls serving drinks actually use Segways. A nice gimmick.

Food Republic is a very high end food court as you can see from the decor. Despite the pretty stiff prices, the place was packed. Though the food here are not the best, they are mostly of pretty good standard. That, coupled with the nice ambiance, makes a winning combination.
