Salzburg 2016 - Salzburg City

Thanks to Mozart and The Sound of Music - Salzburg is one of the most popular  travel destinations in Europe. It has a higher tourist-per-capita ratio even then Venice or Florence. Did you know that Salzburg literally means "Salt Fortress" ? The name came about from the barges that used to carry salt on the Salzach River - which were subject to a toll in the 8th Century.Salzburg is also close to the Eastern Alps - which you can see from most parts of the City.

Salzburg is a small and compact city and can be easily explored on foot. All the sights are within easy walking distance. The buildings in Salzburg are mostly in Baroque style. It is one of the best-preserved city centres in Europe and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

Wandering around Salzburg - once you get away from the tourist crowd, you begin to feel the serenity of the city and the fresh and almost sweet mountain air. It is an enchanting destination.
