Hamburg 2016 - Jungfensteig
Jungfernstieg is the main promenade in Hamburg which faces the Inner Alster lake. In the old days - this was where families came out to walk and introduce their unmarried daughters. "Jungfern" means maiden and "steig" means walk - which gave rise to the name of the boulevard. Today it is still one of the busiest thoroughfare in the city and a great place to people-watch.
One side of the promenade is next to the Inner Alster Lake. From here can take boat cruises to the Outer Alster Lake and the Alster River and beyond.
