Singapore 2018 - DUO

DUO Singapore is one of the latest mixed-used developments in the city centre, occupying a huge site which wraps around the Art-Deco-inspired Parkview Tower. Surprisingly this project is partly owned by Malaysian Sovereign Fund Khazanah Nasional Berhad which teamed up with Temasek Holdings to develop the project.

Designed by Ole Schereen who was also the architect for the iconic Mahanakhon Tower in Bangkok, the DUO is just as iconic - comprising of 2 curved towers that envelope a central plaza. The irregular shape of the towers are supposed to evoke the dynamic movement of a dancing couple.

The tower facades are covered in a honeycomb-patterned metal screen, providing shade as well as a unique outlook to the structure. Unlike many other screened designs which can feel a bit contrived, the honeycomb pattern here segues nicely into the curved facades.
