Hamburg 2016 - Harbour Cruise

Going on the harbour cruise is one of the must-do things in Hamburg. This is the easiest way to see the historic canals and the harbour. If you have limited time - just go on the canal cruise which should take around 1 hour. The longer 2 hour cruise goes around the canals and also out to the main harbour which is not that interesting especially on a gloomy and cold day.

The most common harbour cruise boats are these white and green glass-topped boats. They have big windows which provide good views.

If the weather was better - the views would have been spectacular.

The old canals feel a bit like Amsterdam - even the buildings are quite similar in architecture and mainly built of red bricks.

The cruise also passes through the Western suburbs of Hamburg - where you will see some of the most exclusive neighbourhoods of Hamburg. Here are many impressive mansions lining the shores - insterpersed with beautiful parkland. The houses along the Elbchaussee - an exclusive thoroughfare - are some of the poshest in Hamburg.
