Hamburg 2016 - Hafencity

The old docklands in Hamburg are now being redeveloped into a lifestyle, business and entertainment hub - complete with a World class concert hall - the Elbphilharmonie. Docklands are perfect for urban redevelopment as can be seen in the many such projects around the World. In Hamburg this is right next to the City - and the mixture of old and new buildings and the water and land create an environment that is very attractive to live and work.

Most of the existing buildings in the dockland are 5 to 8 storey redbrick buildings. Though mostly warehouses they were handsomely designed and built - perfect for conversion into residential lofts and offices.

The new buildings mostly maintain the same height as the older buildings. The resulting urban scale is low key and intimate.
