Prague 2016 - Charles Bridge

There are many bridges in Prague crossing the Vltava River - but the most famous is probably Charles Bridge which connects Prague Castle and the Old Town. Like the Old Town Square - Charles Bridge is always packed with people.

Charles Bridge was built in the 13th Century under King Charles IV. For more then 3 centuries it was the only permanent link between the 2 sides of the river.

The original bridge was without much ornamentation. The famous Baroque statues of Charles Bridge were added in the 16th and 17th Century. They were created by different sculptors and are now the most prominent features on the bridge.

Besides the tourists - the bridge is also lined with portrait artists and street musicians. There is a group of flamboyant jazz musicians who are very good.
