Bangkok 2011 - Navalai River Resort

For our first 2 nights stay in Bangkok, we wanted to stay near the Khao San Road area, and Navalai River Resort is one of the best hotels in the vicinity. It is located along the Chao Phraya River and has great views of the Rama VIII Bridge. This is a good base to explore the Banglamphu area, or if you are interested to visit the temples, Grand Palace and Chinatown which are all nearby.

The hotel is small and intimate, with a total of 74 rooms over 5 floors. The best rooms faces the Chao Phraya River and are quite spacious. The Serene Corner Rooms are not bad but a bit smaller and have no views of the river. Try to avoid the rooms facing the street, as opposite is a row of pubs which can be quite noisy until the wee hours.

The lobby - though small - is very nicely decorated.

The best part of the hotel is the timber terrace next to the river. This is an extension of the coffee house, and being shaded from the morning sun is the perfect venue to enjoy your breakfast. At night this is also a popular spot for dinner - as the coffee house transforms into Aquatini - a bar and restaurant serving Thai/ European food.
