Chandigarh 2018 - High Court of Punjab and Haryana

Two main buildings stand face-to-face at opposite ends of the main plaza in the Capital Complex - at one end the Assembly Building, and at the other the High Court of Punjab and Haryana. The High Court Building is a grand example of the "parasol building" - a huge umbrella-like roof that protects the building underneath. Three giant columns painted in bright green, yellow, and red defines the centre arcade, which separates the courtrooms from the offices. A sculptural ramp provides access to the offices on different levels.

The facade of the building is a showcase for Corbusier's concept of "brise soleil", deep sun-breakers which shade the building from the harsh sunlight. Some of these are painted in bright colours to animate the facade.
