Agra 2018 - Agra Fort
Agra Fort was not just a fort but was built as a main residence for the Mughal emperors. It was constructed under the reign of Akbar the Great - the third Mughal emperor and completed in 1573, with more than 4,000 workers and taking more than 8 years. The Fort was a much-coveted prize and passed through the hands of many conquering emperors. During the reign of Shah Jahan, the fort was extensively modified and took its current form.
The Fort is quite massive and viewed from the top the plan is somewhat semi-circular. Entry to the Fort is usually through the Amar Singh Gate in the South. Inside the compound are many palaces, mosques, and structures serving various needs of the royal occupants. The Fort also has many secret subterranean apartments and tunnels, unfortunately, these are not open to visitors.
