Prague 2016 - Winceslas Square

Winceslas Square was created in the 14th Century as a horse market. Today it is the largest city square in Prague - and one of its busiest commercial areas. The "square" is actually not a square but a longitudinal space which runs over 700m long. It is not that interesting by itself - but it has been the site for many of the historic events in the Czech Republic. There are some very nice examples of Art Nouveau architecture built in the early 20th Century lining the streets.

Grand Hotel Europa is one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau buildings at the Square.

You will also find the Bata flagship store here - it is the biggest Bata shop in Europe. Many people may not know that Bata shoes are actually from the Czech Republic - I used to think it was from India !
