Beijing 2018 - Dinner at Magnolia Chinese Restaurant

Sunrise Kempinski has around 6 F&B outlets giving guests ample choices when it comes to lunch and dinner. For our last night at the hotel, we decided to try the specialty Chinese restaurant Magnolia. The restaurant specializes in cuisines from Huaiyang, Sichuan, Canton and Beijing. The décor is like most other high-end Chinese restaurants in China – modern and stylish.

We started with a couple of appetizers - Black Wood Fungus in a Black Vinegar Dressing, and Cold Beef Cubes with Carrots and White Radish. The latter was a textural delight, with petite cubes of tender beef nicely complimented by the crunchy white radish.

Next was the Double-Boiled Chicken with Mushroom and Dried Longans. A classic Cantonese soup which was flavourful and comforting in the cold weather.

Green Sprouts in Superior Stock. A simple dish that was elevated by the really good stock.

Char Siew, Roast Duck and Crispy Roast Pork - not much to talk about except that every element was well executed.

Spicy Lamb Chops - one of the more interesting among the dishes we had flavour wise, the lamb was seasoned with a spice mix reminiscent of Mongolian flavours.

Fried Beef Kueh Tiaw. Not as good as our Malaysian version.
