Berlin 2016 - Checkpoint Charlie
Checkpoint Charlie was one of 3 checkpoints set up after the Berlin Wall was erected in 1961. Of the 3 checkpoints - Checkpoint Charlie became the most famous. It was the site of several stand-0ffs between the East and West. Located on Friedrichstrasse - this was the only place at which diplomats and foreign visitors could cross between East and West Berlin.
Today Checkpoint Charlie is probably the most famous landmark in Berlin - a must visit for tourists to the City. The soldiers who stand guard at the checkpoint are not real soldiers - but are posers who charge a fee for taking photos with them.
