Berlin 2016 - Bikini Berlin Shopping Arcade

Bikini Berlin is a very unusual shopping mall. In fact, in many ways it is the anti-shopping mall - it feels like a university mess hall rather than a posh mall. The building itself was one of the iconic Modernist structures built in 1957. It has been renovated and extended to include an office block in the original tower, and a shopping arcade on the podium. 

The arcade is laid out in a linear fashion typical of shopping malls - but a lot of design and thought has gone into the section of the building to create interest and avoid mundane spaces.

On the roof of the arcade is a roof garden that is accessible to the public. This roof garden also looks directly into the Berlin Zoo - so this is not your ordinary roof garden.
