Melbourne Architecture - Block Arcade

Block Arcade is a shopping arcade which connects to Elizabeth Street, Collins Street and Little Collins Street. It is one of the most beautiful arcades in Melbourne. Walking through the arcade is like going back in time - you could be in Rome or Milan in the 18th century. The mosaic floor is beautiful, and the frosted glass ceiling with decorative wrought iron and timber support gives it a Classical grandeur and style which is simply stunning.

The shops here are mainly fashion boutiques. There are a few cafes, and the Hopetoun Tearoom is a great place for afternoon tea and desserts.

Another beautiful heritage shopping arcade is the General Post Office Arcade which was converted from the old GPO building at the corner of Burke Street Mall and Elizabeth Street.

One other arcade to check out is the Royal Arcade connecting Little Collins Street and the Burke Street Mall.
