Hamburg 2016 - The Harbour
The Hamburg Harbour is right in the centre of the City. The Port of Hamburg is Germany's largest port and also the 2nd busiest port in Europe after Rotterdam. Founded by Frederick I in 1189, it has been Central Europe's main port for many centuries. What you can see from the city side is mostly the leisure part of the harbour and not the commercial port. From here you can join the various harbour cruises
The Elbpromenade is the main landing point for the harbour cruises. We were there on a Saturday - but the place was surprisingly empty. Maybe it was the weather - it was gloomy and freezing cold.
