Morocco 2014 - Terrasse des Epices

Hidden among the Souks are hundreds of riads, boutique hotels, B&Bs, cafes, restaurants, etc. waiting to be discovered. One of the often recommended cafes for a nice meal is Terrasse des Epices, which is located in Souk Cherifia right in the centre of the Medina. Souk Cherifia is a small traditional shopping centre - called "kissaria" in Marrakesh. There are 3 floors and the shops here focus on local designer ware - which is very interesting to explore.

Terrace des Epices is right at the rooftop and offers great views over the roof of the Souks. The place is very nicely decorated with modern Moroccan flair.

The menu is Franco-Moroccan, and their specialties are salads, grilled meat and of course Tajines.  This salad of orange slices and Moroccan spices is so simple yet refreshing, especially in the local heat.

Another simple salad - tomatoes with fresh herbs - is just as good.

For mains, I ordered a Chicken Tajine. It was delicious - the chicken was tender and infused with subtle hints of Moroccan spices - and what gave it the extra kick was preserved lemons and olives.

The Mixed Grill came with grilled lamb and chicken. The meat is nicely infused with spices, but the French Fries were a little bit out of place.

Terrasse des Epices is a great oasis and after a few hours of adventures in the Medina there is no better place for a pit stop.
