Bangkok 2013 - Chinatown

Chinatown is a must-visit when you go to Bangkok. In the day time, it is a hive of activities as locals shop for groceries, hardware and even gold - which many Chinese prefer to cash. At night the street transforms into a food haven with lots of stalls selling all kinds of street food.

Getting to Chinatown is a bit of a hassle. Being in the Old Town, it is not served directly by the MRT. The easiest way to get there would be to take the MRT to Hua Lamphong which is the central train station in Bangkok - then take a taxi or tuk-tuk to Chinatown. The tuk-tuk drivers in Bangkok think of themselves as Formula 1 drivers so it is not for the faint-hearted!

The famous stalls here are T&K Seafood and Rut & Lek Seafood. They are next to each other and differentiated by the servers wearing green (T&K) or red (R&L) T-shirts. We had wanted to go for seafood at Chinatown, but the crowd was impossible and the wait for a table would have been too long as the kids were already crying for food.

We finally settled at a stall in front of a gold shop selling roast duck. The roast duck was as good as the best we've had back home, however the presentation is a bit messy and the portion a bit small.

There was a nearby stall selling pork soup. We ordered one and it came filled with pig's innards, roast pork and wontons. Delicious !
