Bali 2010 - 1st Lunch

Having arrived late in Bali due to our passport debacle (see 1st post on Bali 2010), we were famished. It was already around 3.00 p.m. by the time we settled in at the hotel, so the natural thing to do was to just eat there. The coffeehouse was a part of the lobby, and the decor is modern Balinese. It was quite pleasant in an unfussy sort of way.

This being Bali, we decided to stay with Indonesian dishes - Nasi Campur (mixed rice), Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) and Soto Ayam (Chicken Soup). The Nasi Campur was very good - it came with sambal prawns, beef rendang, spicy chicken, sambal eggs, green beans and satay - small bites of almost all the Indonesian favourites on one plate.

The Nasi Goreng was a bit less exciting. Just standard fried rice with a chicken wing and topped with a fried egg, served in a cast iron mini-wok. It tasted pretty good though.

The Soto Ayam was great - a rich chicken broth flavoured with aromatic spices.

I don't know whether it was because we were hungry, or the food was really good - but we were definitely very happy after the meal. It was a good start to our Bali adventure.

Sounds like a tasty dish. I might try this out in the upcoming holidays.
